Baja Report January

Dear Ones,

There are times when I stop and just really wish that you were here with us. Here in a foreign land (to me) where the Creator of the universe set me…..in all honesty there are times when I really miss the USA and truly question if I am in fact in the perfect Will of Yahweh or if maybe I just got emotional and convinced myself that the Lord spoke to me all of those years ago.
Then will come a time such as this-
Today was a normal day of cooking for the kids, then driving into town with frank to get the massive grocery shopping done as well as taking care of paying the light bill and all of the thousands of other little things that must be done if things are to run smoothly or even at all. I was grumpy and weary as we unloaded what seemed to be 100 grocery bags and hauled them in, then the cats had to be fed, the house was in disarray and the heavy fogwas rolling in over my freshly washed clothes out on the line and we had to get those down.
I had just slipped into some comfy clothes when I heard them calling from downstairs. It was nearing dark but we didn’t yet have the generator on, just a couple of candles in the kitchen. I thought, “Dear God, what can they want NOW?” in an attitude quite unbecoming to any godly person I am sure.
It turned out to be the family of Mario, the little boy for whom we are trying to arrange cataract surgery. I had totally frgotten that we had sent a message for his parents to come up after work to discuss the next step in this process.
We brought these two very humble Trique people up into the house and began to explain what needed to be done next and how we needed to take the mother and child into town Friday for an appintment to finalize there Mexican Government insurance. It was a LONG process as they understand precious little Spanish and do not read at all. We explained the surgery and hw fortunate it was that it was being caught now before Mario was totally blind. The father then asked us how much it would cost.
Frank explained that Yahweh, the Father of Jesus and God that we serve had opened doors for the child to obtain this surgery free of charge. Now we knew the mother was an believer because she was saved in our church about 1 year ago. We asked the father if he believed in God and if so what was the name of his God. He said he believed that Jesus was his Saviour. But as we spoke of Yahweh’s Provision and how He could meet all of their and our needs I could just see that the father was not getting it. Not understanding and not believing. It lit up for both Frank and I at the very same moment, these people have ONLY heard of Jesus as Saviour of our souls and didn’t in any way relate to Him as anything else. The father told us how they had once taken the boy to a specialist in Oaxaca and were quoted a price of $50,000 pesos for the surgery back then to save his eldest son’s sight. (Understand that $50,000 pesos might just as well be 1 million dollars to these
very very poor people) He pronounced this amount with great wonder and hopelessness. Frank then asked him if he understood that Yahweh was going to essentially pay that amount by providing this surgery. The father just sat there wondering, with no answer. I had to give it to him for being honest instead of just saying what he thought would satisfy us which many people will do.
So Frank told him about Yahweh owning ALL of the silver and ALL of the Gold and the cattle on a thousand hills and he said now if YOU had all of that you could pay it right. The guy laughed and said well of course! Again Frank told him that Yahweh was the owner of these resources. It was the colset thing, Uncle Richard, sitting in the candlelight with these people who hail from attally different world basically than we do and watching as the Holy Spirit quickened this information in this man’s heart. I mean you could see it just as sure as you see a light come on and chase away the darkness. Faith came on in this guy like that and chased away the doubt and I wished you were here. I thought of you and how had shared the Gospel with me as a child and in essence armed me for life’s battles. And I know you have the same experiences sharing with people there in your church and you enjoy it but still there was something so wonderful about that I truly
fervently desired your presence. I guess just knowing that you would appreciate the mment just as fully as I did…..
So Frnk went on and got out his little matchbox truck on which he had set his faith to obtain that big truck he had and he proceeded to teach this couple on faith and the Lord’s Provision and it was AWESOME. I know that they went home tonight thanking almost a different God if yu know what I mean. I mean still thanking Jesus but now seeing Him as their Provider as well. And I have faith that they will come to knw Him as their Healer and as EVERYTHING else that He truly is, but at least it is a start!
This does cause me to see the injustice that religion does by preaching mainly or only salvation and in essence crippling people’s relationship and limiting it severely.
So, i’d better go unpack my groceries BUT wish you were here and love,

No Condemnation

Ro 8:1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

The last part of this verse was added by the translators evidently because they thought it to good to be true
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…

This is the fact If you are in Christ God is not condemning you. You have to go somewhere else to get condemnation. When you condemn a building you are saying it is no longer fit for life to dwell there. God says to you because you have believed He raised Jesus from the dead for your justification. To be justified is to be without fault in the eyes of God. The resurrection of Jesus is Gods message to you that He is no longer looking at you as a condemned building but one made fit for Him to dwell in.
Get this. He will fix up His house. You rejoice that He has chosen to move in and fix it up. He has the resources. Let Him move in and let Him Fix it up. Grace is God saying to you I want to move in . I see you don’t have the resources to fix this place up like I am used to . Just give me permission and I will come and do it up right and we can dwell here in style. All I want is your permission to start renovation .

Your part — believe I raised Jesus from the Dead.

Allow Him to be Lord of your life as He is rightful heir to all of Creation.

Ro 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

You are not a condemned building. You are one God sees great potential in as His Dwelling place.

Baja Christmas Report

Hey. Well here I am thoroughly worn out yet unable to wind down totally. Thought I was use this last energy to let you know how things went today.
Today was our Fifth Annual Gigantic Christmas Fiesta in the Brechas del Mirador Church Building. I know I say this all of the time and I hope ya’ll never get bored of hearing it, but once again I stand in awe of the goodness of Yahweh!
Everything went just wonderfully and a joyous time was had for all but mostly by all of the little ones to whom the party was directed. We started at about 9am with two of those big bouncy houses for the kids to jump in. Then we were blessed by a visit from a Mexican drama team who presented the Christmas Story in Spanish and Mixteco alto which was very awesome. Frank led all of the children in a prayer of thanksgiving and worship and I was not the only one with tears on my cheeks. “Our kids” , the ones from the work camp by the mission home were just so attentive and prayed loudly and just generally showed out the rest of the supposedly more “sophisticated” children in attendance, I was so proud of how much they have learned.
THEN we proceeded to dserve lunch to some 172 people!!!! This in itself was truly miraculous. We had been expecting and prepared for 150 and I thought that we had overestimated but no……..
We rounded off the day with games and 4 piñatas. Every one received a new toy. Last Friday we had still received not even one donation and were planning on just giving out candy bags and chicharrones. BUT, on Monday two guys from the Sacramento area who came to work on the classroom roof showed up with literally one truckload of brand new toys and Tuesday a church from Arizona brought down 24 shoeboxes stuffed with new toys, clothes and candies. We are awed and overwhelmed again at the generosity and thoughtfulness of my fellow countrymen-Americans. So much thought obviously went into these gifts that I just can’t get over it-makes me glad to be able to say I am an American really. So from two sources otherwise totally unknown to me before this week the Lord made awesome Provision flow. EVERY child received a toy and candy bag and more PLUS when it was all over we were able to send down the remnant of gifts (about 40 all together) and candy bags to
Harvest of Faith Mission Maneadero which is the other little church we are covering. We were also able to bless them with three stuffed piñatas for their Christmas Cantata which is tomorrow night! The young Pastor and his wife were just so shocked and excited to get this blessing, I think it was beyond their wildest expectations and a real faith booster for them. I am so happy to know that all of the fun and blessings of today will also be repeated at that church tomorrow……..hopefully another 40 or so people will experience the Kingdom through their event and know how the Lord loves them!
So, again I am in awe. We had plenty of help, the Church really came through (both of them) and the whole thing was actually almost flawless-praise the LORD.
It was a lot of work preparing for it, but definitely worth it as i watched the children’s big eyes as they received over and over and over again today, it was just so sweet.
Can’t help but keep thanking the Lord for enabling us to give so much away. It is just so much fun to give stuff away you know and to be able to touch the lives of children (and mothers) whose lives are so hard so difficult makes me so darn satisfied……..
We have come a long way in the 12 years since we arrived in this country with literally nothing, imagine to go from barely being able to get enough to eat ourselves to being in a place where the Lord funnels through us a Christmas blessing to 170 people? It’s awesome and it is all God and we just thank Him for the chance to be His Hands and his Mouth today.
Thank so much to everyone back there who keep us in operation with their financial gifts. This blessing is every bit as much yours as it is ours!
Much Love and Merry Christmas-
Detra and Francisco

Your Imune System

Pray Up Your Immune System!
1 Corinthians 14:4
4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…

Many Charismatics believe that when you speak in tongues, you edify or build up your spirit man. Well, that is only one-third true. The Bible does not say that the speaker edifies his spirit. No, it says that the speaker “edifies himself”. This means his entire self — spirit, soul and body. So he who speaks in tongues builds up his spirit, soul and body.

Does this include building up your immune system? Yes, it does! Brain specialists at Oral Roberts University’s hospital found out through research and testing that when a person prays in tongues, his brain releases two chemicals that are directed to his immune system, giving it a 35 to 40 per cent boost. Interestingly, these secretions are triggered by a part of our brain that has no other apparent activity and which is activated only when we pray in tongues.

Now, your immune system is your first line of defense against diseases. During the SARS outbreak in Singapore in 2003, not everyone who had the disease died. Only those whose immune systems were weak succumbed to the disease and died. Therefore, many people resorted to vitamins and herbs to boost their immune systems.

A 74-year-old church member decided to build up his immune system against more heart problems. Two of his arteries were 70 per cent blocked and five smaller vessels were 80 per cent blocked. So during a church service, when I asked those who wanted to be healed of heart problems to stand up, he stood up, placed his hand over his heart and prayed in tongues.

He shared that at that moment, he believed that the Holy Spirit touched him and he became a different person. When he went for his medical check-up, his surgeon found that all the blockages in his blood vessels were gone! Even a scheduled heart-related operation was cancelled as there was no longer any necessity for it. Indeed, he was a different person. He literally had a change of heart, a new heart from God!

Beloved, you may not have a heart condition, but you can still pray in tongues and pray up your immune system!

Baja Report December

Dear Ones,

Hope this finds ya’ll snuggled up, keeping warm………………..

We are resting up a little from some rather big doings. As you know weather in Baja is either gorgeous or a non-issue for the most part , but El Nino visited us on Monday and things are still a mess! The rain came down in a constant whirlwind for literally hours, knocking down power poles (7 on the dirt road alone!) leaving hot wires strewn across it and effectively knocking out incoming vehicular traffic till yesterday afternoon. Frank had to leave the truck at the bottom overnight as the other road up was washed out totally. The wind blew the roof clean off of Frank’s generator shed, water came in and that night we were without electricity totally. Much f the sandpaper on our roof(house) came off in small pieces and it must be replaced before more rains come and fall directly onto the wood of the subroof. We need to believe Yahweh for about 24 rolls of that darn paper. Remember Walter??(the cabbage pastor) well, the entire roof blew off of his
building and into the highway…………Frank and Marcial spent the last 24 hours moving their stuff out of what is left of their building.
I went into t Ensenada to get supplies today and had a harrowing experience. I was stopped by the State Police (coming home) who were doing “random” stops to check for drugs, guns and fugitives. It scared the hell out of me. My hands are literally still not so steady. I was stopped by a truck full of 8 cops in riot gear wearing their ski masks (why? I do not know.) They were not nice at all, not friendly, not chatty. They had me step onto the side of the road (main road in Maneadero) lean up against their truck and they proceeded to frisk me with my hands over my head- they put their hands inside the waistband of my pants, made me remove my shoes etc. It was the most thorough search I have ever had and totally uncalled for in a random stop. They acted as if I was a real threat to them. It lasted about 45 minutes. They ripped the inside of the truck apart, dumped my purse and wallet, dumped my groceries all out in the truck bed. Obviously they do not
help you put it back together so I just drove home with crap rolling all over
the place. Somebody from the little store who saw the whole thing came over to see if I was okay to drive after the cops left. He said that he had watched them do the same thing to 4 other people today and he was scared himself just being in close proximity.I have been angry and afraid since but mostly just grateful that it is over and nothing worse happened.
Things are unfortunately getting worse here. I have hesitated to say much of it to you for fear of stressing you out, but it is not so good. And, they just announced last week that we are getting an additional 1,000 “officials” (officers and soldiers) here in Baja Norte. Supposedly it is to subdue the cartels, but honestly there just is not THAT much cartel action going on and therefore the soldiers and cops are bored and frustrated and feel the need to make things happen.
This is my second time being stopped in three weeks and Frank was stopped twice in ONE DAY last week. It was the sldiers who stopped me the other time and it wasn’t as invasive but still scary. Soldiers invaded Rancho Tamayo about 6 weeks ago for the SECOND time (our neighbors down on the dirt road where the dairy cows are)- busted in in the middle of the night and literally gave old Senora Tamayo a heart attack. She had to be rushed to the hospital. And that is it. they just bust in, wreck everything and leave and if they find nothing illegal, as in this case both times-oh well too bad for the resident. The news tells everyone this is the price we must pay for security. Just a real live reminder that alice ain’t in Wonderland any longer…..
But, praise the Lord all is well. Thank you for the great offering. It sure felt good to recieve it as things were on the desperate side, but as usual, Yahweh is ON TIME.

Much Love,
sd

November Report

Dearest Brothers and Sisters,

Warmest regards to all of our Church family –

Well, here we are a week from the beginning of what we know as the “Holiday Season” in the United States of America. I can hardly believe it as I somehow got stuck in late summer, August it seems! My Grandmother’s words about how time would fly when I got older certainly do ring true now.
Here in Mexico, they do not celebrate Thanksgiving so we go straight from the Day of the Dead to Christmas with Nativity celebrations really beginning on the Day of the Virgin which is December 10th. I miss Thanksgiving a lot though and always try to serve a big meal to all of those to whom we minister. In years past turkeys have been donated or have miraculously appeared and I have served turkey dinner with the works for up to 120 at a sitting! It is always so awesome to see the little children’s big brown eyes light upon those birds set at table’s center! For people who struggle to eat even one full meal every few days , let alone every day, a Thanksgiving Dinner is akin to having died and gone home to heaven.
As of this writing, we have yet to recieve a turkey- may be that increased searches of all vehicles crossing the International Border Southbound – and resulting fines and contraband seizures have detained those who usually bring turkeys down from doing so. Still, we are holding out hope that the Lord will provide, if not a turkey, maybe a ham or even a roast of some kind.
As I set myself down to write this report I am again overwhelmed with gratitude. Guess I am beginning to go back over in my mind all that I have seen the Lord do through this ministry in this past year.
It has undoubted been the most difficult heartbreaking year ever for me personally and there has been no shortage of tears and questions and self recriminations. At the very same time I have seen the ministry flourish and branch out and literally touch more people than ever.
The ministry consists currently of four key outreaches-The Church, the Feeding Center, the Building Program and the School.
Our Sunday Services continue not only to reach into the pueblo where the building is but we have a steady crowd of Indians who walk over a mile and a half to hear the Word and to recieve ministry. Pastor Francisco has been led to really begin teaching the people about tithing and giving – understand that this is not an easy thing to do when you are ministering to literally the poorest segment of society-people who are practically homeless and really depending upon the feeding program t feed their children. BUT, we BELIEVE that only their understanding of the Kingdom and Yahweh’s economy, coupled with the Living fresh Word of God will break their chains of bondage and poverty. Joyfully, I can report tonight that we are beginning to see tithes coming in- in the form of vegetables, food and even the occasional chicken or blanket! We minister almost exclusively on Sundays to Indians to whom Spanish is either not known or a second language. They are
people who have left their southern home states of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Guerrerro because of the extreme extreme poverty and violence and are in search of work and a better life for their families. Once here, though, they encounter discrimination and more heartwrenching poverty now in a society whose language they do not speak nor understand. They find themselves forced to live in “company” housing which most often consists of an 8×8 cinderblock room with a cold cement floor no windows and no rtunning water or electricity. It is not uncommn fr 12 peple t live in one room. They work in the field picking or planting vegetables or flowers or in the packinghouses and they move very often depending on where the work is. This migrant lifestyle causes it to be difficult fr them to really get rooted in any one church, but we are seeing them return to church whenever they come back into town at last. Their migrant lifestyle also means that we have a constant
stream of unsaved coming in and GETTING SAVED. It is our hope however to eventually be able to send out a migrant type Pastor to follow the work circuit with them eventually.
In the last month or so , we have been really blessed to see a tremendous HUNGER for the Word frm peple that we are not even meeting in church services but in the “marketplace” in town as we go about our daily lives. As a result, at this time Francisco is teaching two Bible Studies during the week- one to youth in Maneadero and another to more youth all the way over in North Ensenada. These are all peple who literally begged for someone to come in and share God’s Word with them, mostly fresh converts and peple this is awfully exciting news to us. This is an area in which your prayers would also be appreciated.
Our little School is open every weekday morning while I am cooking the daily meal from 8:30-12. We have frm 15-25 students who we bring in daily from the work camps to learn the Word, basic Spanish , a little basic math and to get a healthy morning snack before the noon feeding. These are Trique, Mixteco or Zapotec children from age 1 and up who are not enrolled in public school fr a host of reasons-they may be in town fr only a short period or their parents may not understand the benefits of an education, again there are a host of things that keep them out of public school. Most of them are home in the camps alone all day while the adults are out working. Our vision and goal is to keep them safe , teach them the Word, prepare them for public school if that is in their future and to show them Jesus’ Love first and foremost. After a few months without a techer we have recently brught in a young couple who are loacl pastors as well to teach the children.
We are paying this couple about $50 a week and feel that it is an investment not only in the children’s lives but also in this Christian couple’s lives, who before they started teaching here were really struggling and often going without food so their own children could eat.
A big part of the ministry, which brings Glory to God and really has folks around town talking and praising Jesus is the feeding Program- we are entering year three of feeding a daily meal t the neediset children around. Children who are SO hungry that they still ask me for plastic grocery bags to take home other people’s table scraps to feed themselves and their family. We have several small children (age 5 to 7) who show up to eat with a little pot or slop bucket to gather the scraps to take home. People can’t figure out how we manage it and in fact I can’t reconcile the numbers, but we are now feeding an avergae of 300 full meals plus dessert every week. I KNOW the Lord regularly multiplies the food, because I cok it and I knw what’s in the big pots and time after time it just keeps coming when it should in fact be gone!
Some people do not really understand WHY we do this or what is has to do with the Lord. Simply put, it glorifies the Lord. We want everyone to know that we serve a God who is LOVE and that He cares for His people- what more real way of showing people that He really cares than by putting good warm food in a hungry child’s tummy? We pray that through their contact with the program and with us that these same children will come to know the Lord and all of His Goodness!
The increased Border controls have really hurt the ministries in Northern Mexico that serve the most impoverished people. Just this ministry alone has lost a huge bi-monthly shipment of staples and dry goods due to the new laws. We are still praying for the restoration of our shipment of hundreds of pounds each of beans , rice, potatoes and much needed powdered milk that ceased this past August. The loss of this food has caused a huge bump up in what we must spend on food every week. We shall not panic though! We would ask that you would set yourself in agreement with us that the Border would be miraculously opened for these shipments, in Jesus’ Name! Keep in mind that this food has already been donated and is mliterally sitting up in California awaiting a way over the Border and we KNOW the Lord can cause that to happen.
This year the Building Ministry has focused on building classrooms for our pueblo’s elementary school. We have built one classroom, made numerous improvements in general and have a building crew coming in the first week of December to finish up the sixth grade classroom. Pastor Francisco and his crew have the floor and walls all ready to be roofed and to have the windows and door installed during that week, praise God- to get it finished out before year’s end.
This year has also seen the addition of a monthly medical clinic to indigenous people which provides medical care, medication and vitamins free of charge.
After many years of prayer for this to happen, the Lord connected us with two Christian couples in Idaho who are sponsoring this clinc-our meeting them and finding a local Christian doctor who actually prays with our patients is a miracle in itself!
Harvest of Faith Ministries remains our most constant most generous supporter financially and spiritually and the only supporter that actually provides fr us to live on the mission field. We know that it is your obedience to the Holy Sprit in giving that makes all of this possible. The Lord really makes things happen through you all. We want to state again that your giving has a direct impact on the lives of many many people. We recieve about $120 a week designated for groceries for the feeding program from another source and every now and then a one time offering will come from a new source. But by far , Harvest contributes the most, is the most faithful, and enables us to do so many important things! I mean we are providing clean drinking water free of charge for about 25 families currently. Children who wouldn’t normally eat even one complete meal a week are eating EVERY DAY. The Word of God is going forth on a regular basis and the unsaved are
getting saved – we are able to do this because Harvest of Faith ENABLES us with finances to preach the Word. The people in our little pueblo are constantly thanking us for the feeding center or the Church and we can explain to them how we are enabled by God through you all to do what we are doing. I wish that those of you who are so generous with your prayers and your giving could actually come here and hopefully some of you will but until then all I can do is say thank you on behalf of the people here and tell you from the bottom of my heart how very much your giving means to this ministry and to so many people and how very much your expressin of Jesus’ Love means to us personally.
WE keep you constantly lifted up in prayer before the God of all Glory that He will bless and enrich and protect you and yours.
Enjoy the best of Thanksgiving celebrations and please remember us here in Mexico.
Thank you.
Much Love,
Sis. Deedee and Bro. Francisco

Suggestion for Healing

P1020089I recently received a request from an individual about their physical condition. They refered me to research done about their condition. I made this observation about what they were doing unknowingly. If you always do what you have always done you will always get the same results. Many chrisitans who accept the fact that God heals as part of His covenant fail to ever receive healing for themselves . This is in part because of their focus. Whatever we focus on becomes greater and more real to us than what we don’t focus upon. The truth is focus upon what you want and not upon what you don’t want. When you focus upon the disease or sickness you are focusing upon what you don’t want. When you focus upon God’s word about the situation you are focusing upon what you do want. Jesus said that whatever thing we desire(want) believe that we receive them and then we will have them. Desire or want is focus. When you look at His Word you open the door to receive your healing.
An old Jewish saying is “open the door to God as small as the eye of a needle and He will open a door large enough for a camel to pass through. ”
Your mustard seed size faith to look at what He says opens the door for the mighty power of Holy Spirit to remove sickness out of your midst.
Exodus 23:24 “You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their sacred pillars.
25 “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
26 “No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
The word serve means to worship. Worship involves focusing upon Him letting all other gods or situations go from your sight. He promises us as we look at Him. He will take care of the sickness looking to overwhelm your life.

Suggestion . The more you know about the natural the more fear increases and faith decreases. If we spend equal time meditating in the word on healing you will find fear decreasing and faith increasing. I have seen from AP that when symptoms appear she retreats into the word on healing. Bible and books on healing with testimonies that increase faith and hope. A picture in your mind of God doing the impossible and faith in your heart to receive.
I have yet to meet a person who knew more about their disease than they did about God’s healing covenant that ever got healed.

Trust in your heart not your head. The Holy Spirit will lead you into all reality. Reality is truth and the truth is you can receive your healing /restoration/ miracle.

Sunday

Hey. Yesterday was a great day in the Lord. I went over to the building a little early to get in some personal worship time. BUT, as is usually the case , when people see us going over they go as well, never heeding the actual hour. So, honestly, I was feeling a little selfish and aggravated that I was not going to get that worship time alone, just me and Yahweh. I set up the sound and by the time I had finished most of the chairs were full. There were 4 or 5 ladies with babies ( great I thought, they (the babies) will probably cry the whole time.) And there were about 25 small children, most under 7. I turned on the music and began to just pray in tongues a bit and got very convicted of my selfishness and my religiousness. I turned to see most of the children just quietly sitting and hearing the music. One little guy was restless though and kicking his grandma! I beckoning to him and offered a microphone. Of course heran up and snatched the microphone and I asked him if he wanted to sing. Then I put a very simple song on and started teaching HIM line by line…… It went like this….. Yo vengo al lugar mas santo (I come to the holiest place) Atravez del Cordero de Dios (Through the blood of the Lamb of God) Yo vengo solo a honrar (I come only to honor) El gran Yo Soy (The Great I AM) Dios te adoro a ti (God I worship you) Pues solo To eres Santo (For only you are Holy) Line by line we went over and over, after two times thru I looked up to se that everyone was so attentive and EVERYONE was following. The women as well. We went thru the song 4 times more and the presence came and some were lost in it and all were at peace in it overwhelmed by it to the smallest infant each one , mexican, Trique and MIxteco all alike………it was awesome and I declare it was the beginning of a new thing and I believe we will begin to see the Power of Yahweh manifested in these people, because that is what I saw yesterday. I saw walls coming down, prejudices broken and as a testament afterward the Triques were actually mingling with the Mixteco and this is something that I have not seen…… Now, something else has been on my heart all day and I just had not gotten around to sitting down to write it till now. But I want you to know how much you all’s financial generosity affects my life. Of course it provides for the work that goes on here but also it blesses me, us with a quality of life we otherwise would not have. I/we are so blessed because of your generous spirit and I just want you to know that I thank God for that and am aware of that all of the time. It is a good thing to be able to be such a blessing in so many people’s lives and I thank you all and I strive to be like that because I respect it in you. Much love and Blessings, detra

August Report

How are ya’ll? The “devil winds” are in town again, the Santa Anas that is-those hot dry winds that wreak havoc in these parts every year at this time. The range of mountains behind us (not the first ones behind the house and church building but the second big row behind) are burning tonite so we are taking turns watching. The balcony actually has a light layer of gray ashes covering it and the air stinks of burning. and you can actually feel the heat coming from over the hill. The fire is not TOO close but it is not TOO far either about the same as it was the time it tried to devour us last time-2 years ago?? So yes we are watching because it can happen so fast. Frank wet down around the house as much as he could before dark for what it is worth and praise Yahweh he and Chrlie and <Marcial were working on the fireline on Wednesday just because its that time of year. But in the end as always it will be the Lord that keeps us and although it is wise to watch I am TRUSTING in HIM.
Frank has been working on getting phase two of the classroom project done all week-the walls and columns-he is doing it in block this time so it will be equal to the existing arquitecture on the school grounds. When the principal returned from her summer vacation and saw all of the work done so far on this classroom she literally broke down in tears and thanked God. (remember she is not yet a Christian) She did not expect it to happen so rapidly and is so happy that soon they will not have to teach on egrade in that old school bus they ahve been using which is HOT in the summer and wet and cold in the winter. I think it is an awesome testimony again of the Kingdom of our Lord.
We have set out sights on really fixing up the playground area here at the mission. We've painted the slide and swings red, yellow and green and they look really cool. The wet paint seemd to send a special inviation to children from all around and we finally had to post Charlie down there for the duration of it's drying time as obviously a sign would not work with our "special" kids…….still, Charlie has a short attention span and many an indian child went home with striped booties that afternoon. But anyhow, I am seeking building instruction sfor a seesaw and a wooden type jungle gym to build and at the same time appealing to folks we have known up north who might have old equipment to donate. Since so many children use the existing playground area as skimpy as it is we really think it would be worthwhile to make a little "park" down there. I mean we have the property available to make it really nice. We are going to start by faith as we usually do working with what we have….in this case (as it was also when we started the house) we have access to lots of rocks. So we will delineate the area with painted rocks and do some landscaping. I believe it will be a real blessing. i mean this is the only area like a "park" that the kids ever come in contact with and they use it a lot.
If in your internet perusal you run into anything pertinent please fwd it.
It has been so warm here and with no electricity there are no fans at night, so we've been sleeping on the balcony. Oh, BURD and AP-wish you were here to do this. The stars last night were so amazing . I saw half dozen falling stars and EVERY constellation, it was so cool. literally too. Had my heart set on it tonite but the ashes are nixing that plan….Anyway, you guys must try it, it is much fun.

July Baja Report

Yesterday was my Ladies Bible Class. I had seven Triqui women show up.One lady just arrived here from Guerrerro, she is in her early 60’s and has 7 small boys aged around 3 to 10!! They arrived about 12:30, here at the mission. (I get done cooking lunch by 10am now and yesterday I let the men serve the meal Thank you to my husband!) I had cleaned out my closets this week and I started with them by handing out all of my dresses that I don’t wear anymore. (My “holiness” wear haha). I have just decided that the Lord MUST want me to be comfortable and happy and He knows how UNCOMFORTABLE I have been in those darn long black skirts and long sleeved blouses. The way that religious people dress here is a real hang up and a barrier to people who do not already own the “appropriate attire” for church -After griping about it for years ,I finally am drawing the line and will no longer participate in a manner of dress that really promotes religious pride that
has nothing to do will the Lord or His Will.
But anyway, the Indians wear long skirts over pants to work the fields in and they were thrilled to get my stuff and for them it has zip to do with church. I had a really good translator yesterday and that made it a blessing. We gathered round down under the balcony in the shade and had a really great time of fellowship!! I love being surrounded by these people as it is like entering another world. They are so humble and I am learning that they rush to do nothing. Time spent with family and friends is valuable to them and they treasure that time and try to draw it out. I am alo learning that just being with them is important somehow. I no longer worry about having “enough to say, ‘ because silence is just fine with them.It i not the words but the sentiment and the mere fact that you are willing to spend your time with them that speaks and is building a bridge. By around 2:30, most all of the women had actually stretched out on their rebozos right in the dirt. One was breastfeeding and the two oldest women were sleeping, while I intermittently snapped beans and talked with the younger women. The children as well had found shade down by the swings and were sacking out one by one. I talked about some of the awesome stuff I have seen the Lord do and also about His Provision. Later I laid hands on the new ladies ankles and asked the Lord to strangthened them “as deer’s feet.” She has been having a lot of pain in them. They respected the laying on of hands and were so reverent as I prayed. Finally, around 4 I excused myself upstairs, but they hung around until 6pm and finally one by one headed home with babies strapped to their backs and water on their heads. It is the first Bible Study I have ever attended where sleeping is actually encouraged., haha. But really, I have to say I was so excited by th ewhole thing by everything that happened and by my growing relationship with these children of Yahweh that it took me hours to get wound down, to be able to relax………I pray that they will experience the love of Jesus through me, that the Lord will manifest in me somehow so that they might REALLY know Him like I do as my Providor, my Healer, my Protection, My King My everything………….if only they can see how He really is, that is my dream. Not for some religious experience like we know it some fleeting thing that we know briefly and spend he rest of our lives trying to attain again just for a moment……no………let them REALLY KNOW JESUS. Please join me in my prayer that this happens for them.
I have got the next Clinic rescheduled for the 21st, Doctora Jeannette finally got back to me to confirm that she can make it that day.
Not one single person showed up for to see a doctor on last Friday, so I am convinced we made the appropriate decision in rescheduling. There have just been so very many outside activities going on this month! However, per past experience, as summer wanes, so to do visits from a rushing stream to a trickle by Labor Day and after Labor Day it is back to normal and time for those of us who live here to pick up the slack. I am really just glad we were able to pull this off in advance this time and am praising the Lord for keeping my ears open to what is going on.
Frank went over to pick up the MCCA food delivery across town today and I stayed here. Now that ALL vehicles are supposed to be searched for contraband upon ENTRANCE TO MEXICO (this is a first, in the past it was very very rare to catch a customs red light coming South, in fact I have NEVER had it happen) it is just as time consuming to come down here as it is to re-enter the USA. I guess in fact they are actually searching every third vehicle as of today. Usually MCCA trucks are here and unloaded by 1pm whereas today Frank says they did not even start rolling in until 4pm, a result of a 3 hour border wait. This will really affect those who depend heavily upon support from the local San Diego/So-Cal area as only the fanatically faithful will be willing to endure the wait coming and going in my experience. I praise God that our supporters ARE actually “fanatically faithful” anyway and all the way from Mississippi …..
The weather remains warm for us and I spent all day again dispensing drinking water to the Triqui and few Mixtecos who come to the mission home to get their drinking water. They started walking up here at around 7am and the least child lugged a clorox container filled with water at just about 8pm as the sun dropped into the Pacific in red splendor. The children come barefooted and sweating -each one the youngest to oldest with some kind of receptacle plastic soda liter bottles, milk cartons, you name it. They stop first distracted by the swings and they’ll set their containers down by the little acacia tree. Their laughter brings me much joy and I realize that this place is as close to a park as some may ever get while they are still young enough to swing and slide. I would really like to add more playground stuff and do some landscaping to make it more park-like and that goes right along with our plan to focus on the mission property from now until we can get it finished.
May the Lord bless the branch of the Lyon’s Club who donated this equipment years ago. I promised them then that I would make sure that children would get good use of it and they have, praise God. (It came out of a Redding, CA. park which was remodeling to meet the new playground codes and a group of young men who were here recuperating from heroin addiction donated their sweat and labor putting it together and getting it well installed. Those boys are long gone their seperate ways now, but their fruit lives on. I pray they are all okay and hope that they remain free of the bondage that brought them to our door.) So they play and play hard and then suddenly some interior alarm rings and they will regroup regather their bottles and make towards the big water dispenser, usually hollering, “Hermanaaaaa, AGUA, POR FAVORRRR!” For some thos eare the only 3 words they know in Spanish. They are so cute,(but I have to catch myself from getting bugged because there are so darn many of them and it just goes on and on…). Especially the tiny ones. Do you realize how HEAVY a gallon of water is for an 18 month old child? Who must walk a good 3/4 mile over a rough dirt road? The tiny ones will have to stop and rest many times before they make it home. I watch them til they reach their housing area because I still can’t get over turning a baby loose like that and it wracks my nerves because our neighbor has started digging a septic tank down below us so there exist this huge gaping black hole. This day, one little boy, new to the area, pulled some coins from his pocket as the water neared full. How much? he asked me. I explained that it was Jesus Our King who provides the water here and he listened with eyes round as dinner plates. He was doubtful until I actually pushed his little hand full of sweaty coins back into his pocket.
I really love to tell people this and see their reactions. To me this part of the ministry is so important because water is so vital to our survival` every day for every one and it just shows people that Our Lord and King is real and that He is truly interested in our welfare!
All told, today 56 people came for drinkng water! This week we went through two containers of 250 gallons. Praise the Lord.
I am happy to relay that some of the parents are planning to do a car wash somewhere in town to raise funds to help with getting our school bus ready for the upcoming year. It starts August 24th. Don’t know how much they could raise but every little bit will help. It needs a tune up at least. Then alos , our car has experienced a major issue. The air suspension stoppe dworking Thursday and it is riding so low that it belongs in East LA. We borrowed a truck to pick up food today, waiting to hear from the mechanic about the Expedition. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad. We did get the generator out for $2500 pesos…..turned out they had to totally replace whatever it is that is made of a lot of copper wire all coiled up and it took some serious hours of labor. It is back in service though now and we are rotating it with the Suburu which we had rebuilt, 4 hours at a time to give them a little break. I am hoping that they will last until electricity comes in which is a very realistic possibility as we get more and more neighbors. The Ejido(municipal) grader came in and graded our road for the very first tim in like NINE YEARS sowe are seeing some progress here.
Well I guess that is it for me. Have an awesome Sunday and love to everyone there,

Many Blessings,
sis detra
